Tempus: I got my fingers burnt — and now I’m putting them in the fire again

Tempus editor Martin Waller explains his tips for the year ahead and, right, looks back to how his 2014 tips fared

I am now going to do something that, so far as I am aware, no one writing this column has done before. Among my tips for this year is one that I also tipped, unsuccessfully, for 2014.

The collapse in the oil price took down all the explorers and producers in the sector. I think it is reasonable to expect some sort of rise during 2015. Alternatively, some cash-rich national oil companies will take the low price as an opportunity to snap up assets cheaply. This is already starting to happen.
